How this estate came to be…

The house you are in is an architect’s dream.

In 2009, when François Debulois left his office and his blueprints in Brittany, he had one vision in mind: to move to the beautiful city of Ouarzazate and spend the rest of his life there. He had known the city for a long time, had friends there, and had just bought the very modest house of Dimitri, the grocer from Mohammed V Avenue.

But once a builder, always a builder. From the very first months of his arrival, he got straight to work. This estate, which you now discover in all its quiet serenity, was built year after year, with each spring adding a new piece to the final harmony.

The idea was to design small houses for his guests. To bring it all together, the first necessity was a water mirror—a place for gathering and freshness: the long swimming pool with its intense, luminous Klein blue tiles. Once this sparkling feature was set on its promontory, pointing the way toward the riverbed (oued) and the misty chain of villages, all that was left was to establish the lines, perspectives, and levels of what would become this charming and elegant property. And, of course, to dress it with its own kitchen garden.

François Debulois thought of his household as a family. There was Simo, his faithful second-in-command, who was part of the adventure from the very beginning. Then there was Hassen—caretaker and gardener—who could handle a trowel just as skillfully as a spade. And finally, the cook, essential for restoring the strength of these hardworking men. For this family, they needed to plant orange, lemon, and mandarin trees, as well as olive trees to produce the household's oil. They also planted patches of alfalfa to feed the sheep, which were gifted to each team member for the Eid celebration.

This was how the architect envisioned his estate, which he also opened widely to the retired sisters of the Catholic congregation located just across the alley. After all, the purpose of a bubble of calm is to offer a place of rest to those who need it.

Today, you are the guests of Simo, who has kept François's spark and spirit alive. He carries on that same respect and immense generosity of welcome.

If you love this oasis on the edge of the city, you are bringing joy to the Burgundy-born, Brittany-raised man who imagined it so passionately throughout his free time.
